CPSL use a copy
protection system called CopyMinder
that relies on the internet to check the validity of an installation.
When you
install a system such as TimeTrek and run it for the first time, it
will use
the internet to assign your system a product key. This allows the
system to run
for a trial period.
After the trial has expired, the program will contact the internet
again when
it is run. If the program has not been purchased, it will then shut
down. If
the program has been purchased, it will read the new parameters,
e.g. if
it is a permanent or limited license, and then run. From then on it
will just
run apart from an internet check at intervals.
This system allows you to easily re-install in the event of a hard disk
failure
or to move to another machine. Just install and give your product key
to
continue from where you left off. The internet check ensures against
abuse of
the system by not permitting two systems with the same key to run.
Attempting
to do so will result in the key being automatically disabled and any
systems
using that key will not run.
The internet check only transmits information about the program
installation.
